Native bird populations and land use
Land use change can dramatically impact biodiversity, especially native species. Authors put acoustic recording devices (microphones) in agricultural land and forests to measure bird calls by native and non-native birds. Furthermore, how easily native birds could be heard, and possibly their numbers, were noticeably lower compared to non-native birds. Non-native bird species preferred agricultural areas over dense forested areas, suggesting that forests may be a refuge for native birds.
